An enormously expensive sewer crawler that is designed to image the inside of pipes has a seemingly 200x300 pixel resolution camera. I talked a client into buying a stand alone GoPro and it’s like OMG we can see shit now... literally too. We have not tried mounting the GoPro to a crawler yet but it’s great for inspecting manholes.

Before GoPros were a thing, I had inspectors capturing photos with Oly mpus digital cameras. First point of training - wear the wrist strap. The engineers conducting the inspections didn’t listen until one of them dropped a camera down a manhole and then had to climb down to rescue it. The camera was toast, but we were able to rescue the day’s work off the card. After that, they decided that wearing the straps was  probably a good idea.

I know those camera systems.  We use our crawler for inspecting drainage culverts and outlet structures for dams.  It probably smells better than yours.

Worse, you can buy an HD camera for similar purposes from some shady Chinese s eller on Amazon for a tiny fraction of the cost of the professional one , too.

Speaking of which... I got one of those a few months ago for video conferencing so I don’t have to open the Lappy every time.  Works “ok” but the exposure sucks. It’s like it’s calibrated for night vision (gigidy) and when I change the settings in a 3rd party capture app, it doesn’t retain the new settings when in zoom or teams.

I’ll probably just go pickup a c920 when they are back in stock.

It probably has no IR cut filter...

I had to erm ... *shifty eyes* ... creatively acquire a couple webcams when I last went in to the office earlier in the pandemic when you couldn’t buy them anywhere. Luckily the lab has a ton of them...

Do you know if there is any software that will actually customize the settings on these USB plug/play cameras?

Edit: I can adjust it in OBS Studio but the settings don’t stick.  Probably needs something that will actually flash the memory.

I think OBS does the processing. I don’t know of anything that sticks; you always have to adjust in each piece of software or the drivers, which would require software from the manufacturer. Your only hope is to identify what camera it is (they’re basically always using some reference or reverse engineered design) and use the drivers & software  from the original manufacturer.

if the poo is in high def you can easily identify “yup, thats poo, lets look at something else” if its so low res you gotta stare and stare and stare to figure is taht poo or something problematic?
